I will be getting another CT scan on Monday, Feb. 11. I misquoted earlier when I said the scan would be on the 13th. I will be sure to give you a full account of how that turns out and what the future will hold. I have been enjoying the break from treatment. While I am not 100% I have been feeling pretty good, have had a good appetite, have been exercising and in general enjoying life. I still get tired quickly but have been able to do things like cook and bake as long as I don’t stand up too long. Everyone seems to be happy that I am back in front of the stove. Well, Super Tuesday has come and gone and did it really prove anything? Not yet, it would seem, except on the Republican side. I still find it irritating that these primaries carry as much weight as they do. If you look at the numbers very few people are deciding who our candidates should be. However, I do not particularly disagree with the results given the choices available. I think it is a shame that the candidates who in my opinion were the most experienced and best qualified have had to drop out of the race for lack of support. But I shouldn't be surprised as political races have become all about money and who can look the best on television.

Looking to the Future

Good to see your update. Thanks.
I'm curios to know which candidates you felt were the most experienced that had to drop out.
I too don't really like how so few people decide which candidates will make it to the end. I'm not nearly knowlegeable enough to figure out how we could do it diffently, however.
Oh well. I keep thinking this is all a lot more interesting than usual and I'll be very curious to see if any of it makes any differnce in the long run.
Love, Jeanine
I second Jeanine's curiosity. I too would like to hear your thoughts on the candidates.
I still like Jimmy Carter. Hilary is going to be in Spokane today. Lana is going to try to go to her town hall meeting. I have a physical therapy appointment during that time so I can't go. Would have been interesting. I am no closer to knowing who I would want than I was 6 months ago. I pay attention as much as I can given my schedule but really as long as everyone is for "change" it must not make any difference who gets in...right? Glad you're feeling a bit better. Good luck on the scan. Love you, Mert
Bill Richardson and Rudy Giuliani both have administrative experience as governor and mayor. Chris Dowd and Joe Biden have had extensive foreign policy experience and know the government inside/out. Even Romney, who I don't particularly care for at least has had management experience. Now we have three candidates who have had no admin experience and Huckabee. Through history Senators have not made the best presidents. Let's hope that changes this time round.
Well, let's see...George W Bush was a governor, Bill Clinton was a governor, not sure about the first Bush (can't remember), Reagan was a governor, was Ford?, Jimmy Carter was a Baptist...and a peanut grower. Kennedy was a senator wasn't he? What about Eisenhower? I know he was in the military. Just trying to keep the brain cells going. Not sure I have a point to all of this.
GW was a governor, Clinton was a governor, GHWB was a Senator, Reagan was a governor, Carter was a governor,
Ford was
Speaker of the House, Johnson was a
Senator, Kennedy was a
Senator, Eisenhower was a
General who had never held political office.
And so, all that being said, what makes a good president? For that matter who was a good president? What were Nixon's qualifications? (Other than persistance.)
Love, Jeanine
P.S. I still like Jimmy Carter too, but I don't get the impression very many people think he was a good president - just a good man.
I really like the question: "Who was a 'good' president?"
I for one don't have a clue what the answer would really be. It seems to me when I hear people talk they say that Eisenhower was, and I think Lincoln was.
But hindsight is always so much clearer than foresight.
Argh! A crystal ball would be nice to have for this one!
Thanks for the update John! Jil and I will be driving to Tahoe on Monday to rendevous with Natalie and Eric. We will be toasting to your progress all along the may with cups of Starbuck's. After we get there, we will ratchet up a bit on the juice for toasting.
With regard to the election, I believe our country may be beyond the point of no return, and it may not make much of a difference about who our next president is. Do I sound pessimistic?? I guess I'm getting there. .
God speed John. Keep building up your strength. I'm glad to hear about your exercise routine.
George
