BRIEF UPDATE

I saw the results of my 48-hour heart monitor yesterday and it showed that my average heart rate over that period of time was 143. Slightly higher than recommended wouldn't you say? So, we're waiting for the amiodarone to kick in. The doc says that should happen by the end of the week. We're looking forward to that as all of the attendant problems associated with the condition remain. I also developed a bad cold with a really violent cough, but the doc doesn't want to give me any additional medicines so I will have to tough this one out with tea and honey until it runs its course.

Hi Grandpa,
I hope the medicine kicks in quickly and that you like tea! I'll be thinking about you.

What about Mentholatum? Does that qualify as medicine? Always makes me feel better. Love you, Mary

Hi Daddy,

I wonder if humidifiers do any good in Seattle. :-)

Hey Dad,

I've talked to you since this post, so know you are feeling better.

Today is 3/1/08, have the meds kicked in yet to get your heartbeat under control?

I forgot to tell you the other night that Stephanie was accepted into Whitworth University and authomatically received a $7.000 scholarship for her academic standing. She has also been invited to submit an application for a communications scholarship which I believe she has also done. She plans to wait to see the outcome of the second scholarship opportunity and her overall financial package before committing to any of the colleges she has been accepted to. So far that is EWU and Whitworth. She was not accepted at Gonzaga and hasn't heard yet from Whitman.

Well, hope you are enjoying Andy and his girl friend's visit. How long will they be in Seattle?

Love,

Alicia

Hi John! I've been taking a drug named Sotalol, which is probably an alternative to Amiodarone. My brother takes Amiodarone. Both he and I have a resting heart rate of about 50-55 beats.

I went back into Atrial Fib. a couple of weeks ago and I'm scheduled into the hospital tomorrow for a 3 day stay to have a special echo cardiogram, get zapped back into a normal beat, and start on a new drug different than Sotalol. I'm not sure what the new drug will be yet, but I'll let you know. All in all I just look at this as a minor inconvenience which is not life threatening.

Hopefully you are seeing an Electrophysiologist for your heart. My regular cardiologist is considered a plumber, and my Electrophysiologist is an electrician that specifically deals with irregular heartbeats.

Hello George,

Thank you for sharing your info with Daddy. It has got to be great to hear about these things from people you know.

I hope your meetings with your doc and your proceedures go well for you.
